Company Profile
Being the first generation, Mahmut Metin founded Örümcek as a knitting supplies shop in Keçiören, Ankara. The shop carried supplies from renowned names such as Drima and Ören Bayan/Madame Tricot Paris and select knitwear from independent brands.
Örümcek continued as a haberdashery to branch out to make knitwear, and Mahmut’s son, Mehmet, started taking over the business. 1983 was also the year that Örümcek launched as a private limited company and invested in a Brother Industries hand-knitting machine.
Collaborating with several up-and-coming Turkish brands, such as Mudo and Roman, Mehmet Metin expanded Örümcek’s operations with a manufacturing facility in Ankara’s industrial district. The expansion led to the formation of an in-house team, and the business opted for Shima Seiki’s industrial flat knitting machines to keep up with the demand.
While experimenting with fully fashioned manufacturing, Örümcek’s team discovered a trend where they could a variety of garments by joining fabrics with knitted parts (such as collars, sleeves, belts/cords, pockets, and waistbands).
Örümcek’s manufacturing capacity reached its highest yet, outputting 8,000 units of knitwear and related garments every month with a 40-person crew, nine computerised flat knitting machines, one computerised design station, and other related cut-and-sew and finishing machinery.
With a desire to export outside Türkiye, Örümcek still operates today, focusing on frequent small-batch orders while honing their established craft for over forty years in the industry.
